This was a project I completed in my second year of the Visual Communications Program. The objective was to create Christmas packaging for a target market of our own choosing. I decided that a market of kids aged 2 - 12 was most appropriate for Christmas. The idea was to create multiple wrapping boxes for several different purposes. The first was to lessen the stress of the holidays and to decrease the cost for families by allowing them to purchase a set of boxes for their gifts instead of having to box and wrap multiples. The second was to create fun and fantastical packaging that kids would be happy and excited to wake up to on Christmas morning. The design of the boxes allows for folding and/or compressing to be put away for the following year thus helping to reduce waste.
My design influence for this project was the film produced in 1964, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." I was very satisfied with the end result of my project however, I would have liked to make the boxes multiple sizes for my display to showcase the flexibility of the packaging and that it can accommodate gifts of all sizes.
